What relevance does Vanity Fair hold for director and shareholder strategists
in planning for successful corporate exits?
The landmark May 31, 2005, issue of the culture and fashion magazine
(revealing former FBI assistant director Mark Felt's identity as the Washington
Post's Watergate source "Deep Throat") might embolden them to maintain belief in
the IPO as one of several sources of liquidity, despite the gloomy reports from
the VC sector that public offerings are hampered by Sarbanes-Oxley and stringent
competition for stock offerings from international exchanges.
In order to gauge the viability of current IPO markets, all one needs to do
is heed the immortal advice of William Goldman's character of Deep Throat as
played by Hal Holbrook in the movie "All the President's Men": "Follow the
money."
